Solo Unicorns Promo Video

The wonderful Miss Tingyi Jude made this video to give an idea of what it's like being a member of our community at Graspop. It has highlights from 2022 and 2023.

(Unfortunately I had to remove the sound due to Copyright restrictions - but if you watch it whilst listening to The 'Interrupters - Got Each Other', you'll get the gist!)

Don't take my word for it... here's what some other unicorns have to say!

Tommy

I'm Tommy, I'm 41 years old (turning 42 at Graspop 2025 itself!), and I was first led into this crazy unicorn group by my good friend Lorna - she had already been to a couple of gigs as a solo unicorns and gave me the nudge to introduce myself - reason being is I had bought a GMM ticket but had noone to go with as my usual motley crew only went to Download. Lorna also told the unicorns about me as she had already become good friends with Mama Unicorn (the wonderful Clare). So I joined the WhatsApp group, and very quickly made friends in the group chat - everyone was so friendly and welcoming. By the time the festival started, I felt like I had known all these guys for ages!! I made friends that I still talk to regularly - weekly/daily. Plus I met the lovely Giselle, which let's just say changed my life ;) I also had the BEST time I've ever had at a festival - so newcomers join us with an open heart (and open mind) as you will be in the very best hands - the very best company. You'll never be short of a friend to talk to or watch a band/rock out with or drink with, there's never a dull moment.

Kate

Kate, Melbourne - Australia. Joined the group in April 2024 and attended my first GMM in June 2024 - just after my 30th birthday, flying solo! After nearly cancelling my trip due to anxious nerves and lack of accommodation, the unicorn group chat gave me all the info I needed on transport, accommodation and festival advice. Lead by Mama Clare, everyone pulled together to make my trip possible, and I was immediately greeted by a few dozen new friends of all ages and from across the world. After one night, everyone felt like family! From hanging out late nights at basecamp to rainy morning breakfasts and dancing, singing and screaming at sets, I will truly never forget it. Going home muddy, slightly bruised and exhausted but with the BIGGEST smile!

Patrick

I'm Patrick, from the Netherlands. I've been a unicorn since 2023. I realised I had the time and money to start going to festivals again. I'd been to GMM before, but I'd lost contact with the people I went with, and was afraid to go alone. After long doubting, I stumbled upon the Facebook group of the unicorns - where I talked with someone who sent me a link to the WhatsApp group. There I got to know a lot of weird and wonderful people who I ended up meeting at GMM 2023. I had a great time that first year as a unicorn. I even joined a day early in 2024 to spend more time with the unicorns in a house in Mol, and decided to pitch my tent at basecamp in Boneyard. Unicorns meet up not just at GMM. We meet for bbqs in summer, at New Years in England, and find each other at other events. We are all weirdos and we all care for and help each other. The group isn't called a family for no reason.

Mats

Hey y'all. My name is Mats. I've been with the unicorns for as long as I have attended Graspop in 2022. It all started with me and my buddy not really knowing many people who loved metal like we did. So I looked around and found this bunch of crazy lunatics through Facebook - never had I been more excited to go to a festival! Still, we were a bit worried that perhaps we wouldn't fit in since we were all strangers and I had never attended a festival before, but once we arrived we quickly grew to love every single one of them! I never felt more comfortable and safe around people than I did when I joined the unicorns. We all look after one another and not once did I ever feel out of place. It truly was a place I could call home, with the unicorns as a big family of lovely weirdos.

Giselle

A week before Graspop I got fired - I wasn't having a great time. But I had Graspop to look forward to. And I said to myself that I don't know how or why but Graspop will change my life and it f*cking did. It was the highlight of the year! My first metal festival abroad. For the first in a long time I actually felt happy and that was from the first day. I left life's responsibility behind and I was gonna make sure I had a f*cking great time. I have to mention of course the wonderful people I have met who I consider now life long friends. Clare the mama unicorn - she made this all happen by bringing us together. One of my highlights of the festival was meeting the awesome Tommy - meeting him made the festival even more amazing, and yeah he's made a big impact on my life too. So what are you waiting for? Join us!

Michel

Arrived solo. Left with a family.

I joined the Graspop Unicorns just before the 2024 festival - and felt right at home from the start. My first real-life meetup was on the Tuesday before the festival, and honestly? It turned into one big party with some incredibly kind and fun people. It felt like meeting old friends I just hadn't met yet.

The festival itself was absolutely amazing. No matter what kind of metal you're into, there's always someone in the group ready to join you in the pit or just chill and enjoy the vibes. Between great conversations, loads of laughs, and non-stop music, I met so many awesome fellow metalheads.

And because waiting until the next festival felt way too long, a bunch of us even planned a weekend trip to Scotland together afterwards. That's just how well we clicked.

Bottom line: The Graspop Unicorns aren't just a group for solo travellers - they're a metal family with open arms, open ears, and the best festival spirit you could ask for. If you're going alone, you won't stay solo for long!
